Genesis Could Drop The V6 Turbo Engine For The G70
It is easy to overlook the Genesis G70, which has struggled to make an impact since its debut nine years ago amid ongoing rumors about its future.
The outlook for the Genesis G70 has become increasingly uncertain, as recent reports indicate that the manufacturer may streamline its lineup for the 2027 model year. According to documentation sourced from the EPA and NHTSA by Car & Driver, the twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine may be discontinued.
Previously, this engine was available in the G70 3.3T Sport Prestige and Prestige Graphite variants, which were priced between $53,600 and $58,900. These models delivered 365 hp (272 kW / 370 PS) and 376 lb-ft (509 Nm) of torque, with slight performance enhancements provided by the variable exhaust system in certain configurations.
Although Genesis has yet to confirm the discontinuation of the V6 engine, its absence from recent fuel economy ratings and VIN documentation is significant. This shift aligns with common industry practices where manufacturers streamline vehicle lineups before phasing out a specific model, a trend recently observed with the Nissan Altima’s reduction of engine options and trim levels.
Regarding the G70, the turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine may become the sole powertrain option for the 2027 model year. While this engine remains capable, producing 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 311 lb-ft (421 Nm) of torque—outperforming the BMW 330i and Mercedes C300—Genesis will no longer offer a direct competitor to high-performance variants like the M340i or the C43.
Genesis is expected to release official details regarding the 2027 G70 in the near future; however, industry reports suggest this may mark the vehicle’s final year of production.
