Jeep Recalls Over 300,000 Grand Cherokee SUVs

Chrysler is recalling 328,381 Grand Cherokees because previous repairs failed to fix an issue where rear coil springs can detach while driving.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has officially designated this recall campaign as 26V562000, while Chrysler has assigned it the internal reference number 89D. This safety initiative encompasses 2021–2023 Grand Cherokee L models, as well as 2022–2023 Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee 4xe variants equipped with standard coil springs. Affected vehicle owners are encouraged to verify their specific status by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the official NHTSA recall lookup tool.

The recall covers 328,381 vehicles built between December 5, 2020, and May 31, 2023, including 97,477 two-row Grand Cherokees, 215,433 three-row Grand Cherokee Ls, and 15,471 Grand Cherokee 4xe hybrids. Vehicles with Quadra-Lift air suspension or 2024+ models are excluded, as the defect only affects units with standard coil springs.

This is the third recall for this issue, following campaigns in June 2023 and February 2026. Vehicles previously repaired remain subject to this recall and require the new remedy. Stellantis estimates a 0.1% defect rate, with 29 customer reports and 409 warranty claims filed by August 2026. This marks another significant recall for the automaker currently under NHTSA scrutiny.

Jeep stated the defect is an assembly issue, not a part failure. Incorrect seating can cause the coil springs to detach while driving, leading to sudden handling changes without warning. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported. Dealers will replace both rear coil spring lower isolators with updated parts at no cost. Owners can check their VIN on the NHTSA website, and repairs will be performed once parts arrive.
