BMW’s Level 3 Autonomous Driving Tech Set For 2025 Launch
BMW has announced that their level 3 autonomous driving tech is in full swing and models will get the upgrade from 2025. The German automaker has joined forces with chip giant Qualcomm Technologies and Arriver Software for the development.
The strategic cooperation will focus on the joint development of next-generation technologies ranging from the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) through to Level 2 Advanced Driving Assistance systems and Level 3 High Automated Driving systems. The software functions will be based on the BMW Automated Driving software stack first launched with the all-electric iX.
BMW said its next-generation automated driving system would use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride Vision system-on-a-chip (SoC) and Arriver’s Computer Vision technology. Moving forward, the joint project will combine BMW’s current automated driving technologies, which debuted in the BMW iX in 2021 and are coming to the new 7-series next month, with Arriver and Qualcomm technology. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride autonomous driving platform can be used from the common Level 1 and 2 driver-assistance systems seen today to fully self-driving Level 5 vehicles.
With this collaboration, over 1,400 specialists will come together from places such as Germany, the USA, Sweden, China, Romania, and the BMW AD Test Center in the Czech Republic. that said, these companies are “open to further partnerships,” which shows just how serious the corporations are about improving this tech as much as possible.
“This joint software development is an important milestone for the BMW Group with regards to our next generation Automated Driving platform,” senior vice president of Driving Experience at BMW Group, Nicolai Martin, said in a statement.
