BYD’s Premium Brand Yangwang Launches Defender-style U8 SUV, To Rival Upcoming Electric G-Class

BYD’s premium brand Yangwang launches Defender-style U8 SUV, to rival upcoming electric Mercedes G-Class, the EQG.
Yangwang says U8 will be able to do tank turn, similar to what the upcoming G-Class EV promises.
It will have floating water and crab mode, plus the ability to keep driving at up to 75 mph with a flat tyre.
Yangwang U8 will hit the Chinese market in the Q2 of 2023 with estimated starting price of around $145,000.
U8 will be available to other markets, allowing it to rival upcoming Mercedes EQG and electric Land Rover Defender.
Yangwang, the premium brand of China’s BYD Auto, has officially launched its first car model, the Yangwang U8 all-electric SUV, at the ongoing Guangzhou International Motor Show in China.
Designed by Wolfgang Joseph Eiger, the Defender-style U8 all-electric SUV comes with unique headlights and taillights and a grille that features the brand’s logo at the center.
Built on a ladder frame chassis, Yangwang says that the rugged off-roader will be able to do 360-degree tank turn, similar to what the upcoming Mercedes G-Class EV promises.
Other impressive features includes a floating water mode and a crab mode, plus the ability to keep driving at up to 75 mph (120 km/h) with a flat tyre – a feature that is seen on the run-flat tyres.
The automaker hasn’t reveal the car’s interior, but previous spy shots shows a cabin with a full LCD instrument panel and an embedded central touch screen, according to CarNewsChina.
U8 4×4 is equipped with four electric motors for an estimated total power output of over 1,100 horsepower. Yangwang didn’t offer any details about the battery-pack or range, but it said that the U8 can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3 seconds.
Yangwang U8 SUV will hit the Chinese market in the second quarter of 2023 with estimated starting price of around one million Yuan (around $145,000).
U8 will also be available to other markets, allowing it to compete with upcoming SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQG and the electric Land Rover Defender.
