The Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cyber crimes in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ordered the arrest of man filmed dashing out money and ‘arrogantly’ asking for the most ‘expensive luxury cars’ in a car showroom.
In a video shared, the accused in an Emirati dress was seen attempting to buy several cars, including a Ferrari SF90 sports car worth AED two million ($545,000), which the showroom owner said was the most expensive.
According to state-run Emirates News Agency, WAM, the man is accused of abusing the internet in posting an exciting propaganda that stirs up the public opinion and harms the public interest.
The man, flanked by people carrying large sums of money, was also charged with publishing a content that inconsistent with the media content standards and insults the Emirati society.
According to UAE’s Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cyber crimes :
“He was also shown distributing financial packages to the showroom employees in a way that reveals imprudence and lack of appreciation of the value of money, in a manner that promotes a wrong and offensive mental image of Emirati citizens and ridicules them, and then incites and provokes public opinion, which harms the public interest.
In addition, the UAE’s Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes also ordered the summoning of the owner of the car showroom in which the aforementioned video clip was filmed.
To avoid falling under the force of the law, the Public Prosecution urged the social media users in the UAE to observe the legal and ethical regulations in the media content they publish and to consider societal characteristics and embedded values of the UAE society that call for moral commitment in all aspects of behaviour.
