At the 2026 Monterey Car Week, Defender presented an all-new, Defender Dakar, which is the road-legal evolution of Defender D7X-R that won the 2026 Dakar Rally—widely considered the world’s most extreme off‑road race—on its debut.
Based on the Dakar-winning D7X‑R—itself evolved from the Defender OCTA—the exclusive limited‑run road car is available in a range of colour options, headlined by the signature Dakar Sand body and Yanbu Turquoise roof combination.

The race‑inspired exterior features roof‑mounted light pods, a fixed metal roof, a carbon-fibre bonnet, raised air intakes, extended wheel arches with exposed rivets, a tailgate blanking plate, and an enhanced metal front undershield for underbody protection.
The vehicle also features 35‑inch all‑terrain tyres wrapped around forged 20-inch wheels. It utilizes a coil suspension system with motorsport‑proven Bilstein Advanced Dampers, new Dunes and Gravel Drive modes, and the D7X‑R’s Flight Mode—all designed to ensure smooth landings on extreme terrains.

Inside, the cabin blends luxury with rally‑inspired functionality, offering a 2+2 seating configuration with bespoke row-one race seats. An optional four‑point racing harness is available, alongside dedicated rear stowage built for race helmets.
Like its competition counterpart, the road-legal Defender Dakar is powered by a 4.4‑litre twin-turbo V8 engine. However, it unleashes a massive 635 hp and 750 Nm of torque—outgunning the D7X-R race car by more than 230 horsepower.

“We’ve pushed our engineers to go further than they’ve ever gone before,” said Mark Cameron, Managing Director of Defender. “First, we evolved the Defender OCTA into the D7X‑R, and then we asked: could we make the Dakar Rally‑winning D7X‑R road-legal? The result is the Defender Dakar.”
Production for this ultra-exclusive collector’s piece will be limited to fewer than 500 units globally. While the pricing is yet to be announced, the base Defender 110 OCTA and Defender OCTA Edition One are priced from $158,300 and $168,700 respectively. Official order books are scheduled to open in early 2027.
