Ford has issued a recall for over 2,000 Bronco units due to an airbag defect that could cause the side curtain to tear during deployment. No injuries or accidents have been reported, and Ford will provide free repairs starting in October. Owners should treat this safety concern with urgency.

NHTSA reports that 2,711 Ford Broncos (produced June 27–July 26, 2026) face a recall due to a potential airbag defect. A metal burr on the side air curtain bracket could cause the airbag to tear upon deployment, leading to rapid deflation and increased injury risk. No accidents or injuries have been reported, and the defect stems from a supplier production layout error.

Ford will notify affected owners once the remedy becomes available, which is anticipated for October 2026. Interim notices regarding the safety risk were scheduled for distribution on September 15, 2026.

Owners of the affected Bronco models are advised to visit a Ford or Lincoln dealership, where technicians will adjust the space between the bracket and the airbag to prevent potential contact. This corrective service will be provided to customers free of charge.

The 2026 Ford Bronco has now been recalled nine times as Ford continues its plan to proactively address safety issues and improve quality. Here’s an overview of all the recalls for the 2026 Bronco.

Recall Bronco Models Affected (including, but not limited to, 2026 models) Date
Bracket may tear side curtain airbag 2,711 September 9, 2026
Improperly manufactured pistons may fail 1,062 August 25, 2026
Engine compartment fire 565,691 July 20, 2026
Fender flare may detach 36,046 June 24, 2026
Loss of drive power from engine failure 408 May 27, 2026
Incorrect tire and weight capacity information 196 May 26, 2026
Loose bolt in front seat frame 117,443 April 28, 2026
Rearview camera image may not display 528,168 March 3, 2026

The engine compartment fire recall, which impacted 2021 through 2026 Bronco and Bronco Raptor models, was the most significant of the group, attributed to a wiring harness prone to damage and subsequent short-circuiting.

Despite the frequency of these recalls for one of Ford’s premier SUVs, the automaker has demonstrated notable improvements in initial vehicle quality this year. In a recent J.D. Power study, Ford was recognized as the top-ranked mass-market brand, reporting fewer initial vehicle defects than competitors such as Toyota, Honda, and Mazda. Ford’s current objective is to extend this standard of excellence well beyond the initial period of ownership.
