Baojun Yep, a Suzuki Jimmy-inspired off-road electric crossover city car, set to join LAGRIDE fleet in the coming weeks.

Launched in the Nigerian market this year, the 4-seater car can accommodate 2 passengers in each row of seats.

On Monday, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu supervised the signing of a Joint Venture partnership between IBILE Holdings Limited and CIG Motors Company Limited for the acquisition of 5,000 brand new vehicles.

At event, Babajide Sanwo-Olu test-drove the Baojun Yep, an off-road-ready battery electric crossover city car, that is set to join the expanding LAGRIDE fleet in the coming weeks.

“Our new fleet will have 1,000 electric vehicles, demonstrating a commitment to reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and pruning the carbon footprint,” Sanwo-Olu said in a statement on his official X page.

The boxy Baojun Yep is expected to be part of the 2,000 units of brand new vehicles that CIG Motors will deliver to the Lagos State Government in the coming weeks in the first phase.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the vehicles will be tailor-made for Lagos terrain to operate on low carbon emissions, improved technological interaction and energy transition.

CIG Motors Company Ltd started the distribution and sales of the Baojun Yep in Nigeria in commercial quantity earlier in the year.

Manufactured by SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) since 2023 under the Baojun brand, the 3-door hatchback features reminiscent of large off-road vehicles such as the Suzuki Jimny.

Distinguished by its angular silhouette with clearly defined wheel arches and black bumpers, and sill covers, the 4-seater car can accommodate 2 passengers in each row of seats.

With its 28.1 kWh Lithium iron phosphate battery, the Baojun Yep will drive about 303 kilometers (188.3 mile) on a single charge in urban conditions before needing a recharge.
