Mitsubishi To Clone The Renault Scenic in 2026

The Japanese manufacturer will enrich its range in 2026 with a 100% electric SUV, which will be based on the Renault Scenic.

In September 2022, the Renault Captur changed its grille, got new logos and became the Mitsubishi ASX, an urban SUV taking its place below the Eclipse Cross. In June 2023, it is the turn of the recently restyled Renault Clio 5 to become the Mitsubishi Colt.

Then, in the summer of 2024, in the wake of the Renault Captur which went under the knife, it was the turn of the Mitsubishi ASX to change its face with these major modifications, distinguishing it – but only seen from the front – from its diamond matrix. The ASX phase 1 will not have lasted very long but, in return, it will not have cost the manufacturer very much.

In 2027, the electric Renault 5 E-Tech, whose very first dynamic tests are currently taking place, will become the Mitsubishi Colt.

But in the meantime, the three-diamond brand will take advantage of the Renault Scenic in 2026 to add a 100% electric SUV to its range. Just like the Renault vehicle, its Mitsubishi twin will come off the production line at the Douai factory in the North.

Mitsubishi Scenic is now official

It’s official, a teaser image was unveiled during the presentation in Madrid of the European version of the Outlander, which will arrive on the market in March 2025. A strategy that is not surprising. Indeed, in the summer of 2020, the Japanese manufacturer announced its withdrawal from the Old Continent, citing a range of products that were not in line with future ecological standards, before changing its mind, relying on its ally Renault to quickly build up a relevant and calibrated offer for Europe.

The Captur/ASX was initially offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, with the plug-in hybrid subsequently being withdrawn from the catalogue first at Renault and then Mitsubishi, due to insufficient customer demand.

While the Clio/Colt relies exclusively on non-rechargeable hybridisation.
