Porsche To Stick With Manual Transmission As It Is Important For The Brand

Porsche says that a manual transmission is an important part of the brand’s vehicles, especially at a time when automatic transmissions dominate the market. Andreas Preuninger, head of Porsche’s GT department, says it’s important to him that a manual transmission is always an option.

Although the manual transmission is a dying breed and becoming a thing of the past, Porsche is sticking to tradition. There will be at least one manual transmission model in the Porsche 911 range in the future. Preuninger, who himself prefers manual transmissions, confirmed in an interview with Motor1.com.

Preuninger emphasizes the importance of choice and says that a manual transmission is already an option in the new generation of the 911, which is in the pipeline. Even though dual-clutch transmissions have been improved, Preuninger is not worried that the manual transmission will disappear due to emissions requirements. He argues that the manual transmission actually contributes to lower fuel consumption and emissions.

– A manual transmission is lighter, which contributes to lower consumption and lower emissions, and you have more horsepower available because the internal resistance in a manual transmission is significantly lower than in a PDK transmission, he explains.
