Instead Of EVs, Stellantis Will See A Factory To Produce Hybrids

In Termoli, Italy, Stellantis was initially going to produce batteries, but now it has come up with something else. The factory is not used for EVs but for hybrid cars.
The plan was for Stellantis to convert a driveline factory in Termoli, Italy, to battery production with ACC. However, that plan was already in jeopardy last year. Then it became clear that Termoli might not build batteries after all, because Stellantis ‘had to adjust the investment plan to the pace at which Europe is making the transition to electric vehicles.’. In short, that transition is not going fast enough. Now it is clear that Termoli will indeed not build batteries.
Reuters reports that Stellantis is now definitely scrapping its battery plans in Termoli and will instead build transmissions for hybrid cars. Dual-clutch automatic transmissions, to be precise. Such boxes, called eDCT, are already found in many Stellantis cars. Some 300,000 of them are to be made annually in the Italian factory on the country’s east coast.
