In a significant development for the automotive industry in North Africa, Opel has officially announced its strategic intention to manufacture engines at its proposed production facility in Algeria.

This move, unveiled at the German-Algerian business forum in Berlin, marks a historic milestone as the company works toward strengthening its local presence.

By committing to this localized production, Opel is poised to become the first major car manufacturer to produce engines directly within the country, further supporting the facility’s broader goal of meeting the growing automotive demand in the region while simultaneously expanding the brand’s global influence beyond its traditional European borders.

The Stellantis branch announced at the German-Algerian business forum in Berlin that it has submitted a statement of intent to continue construction of the factory.

Opel would become the first car manufacturer to produce engines locally in Algeria. Fabika will produce cars for local demand in the North African country.

The move “represents a strategic milestone as we continue to expand our international influence beyond Europe,” Opel Chief Executive Officer Florian Huettl said in a press release.
