Subaru BRZ Gets A Tune Up
Production of the Subaru BRZ sports car, twin of the Toyota GR86, began in 2012, with the current second-generation model arriving in 2020. Now news has surfaced of the latest round of changes for the Subaru BRZ, aimed at the domestic Japanese market. The Coupe received a redesigned 6-speed gear lever, created based on the experience gained from the Super Taikyu series.
The Subaru BRZ with manual transmission is also equipped with a wide-angle monocular camera, which, combined with a stereo camera with extended recognition range, helps the EyeSight driver assistance system better prevent cross-traffic collisions. The technical package is unchanged: Subaru BRZ is still offered on the domestic market with an atmospheric 2.4-liter 4-cylinder boxer, which produces 235 hp and 250 Nm of torque.
In addition to the mentioned 6-speed manual transmission, there is also a 6-speed automatic, while the drive is exclusively on the rear wheels. The starting price of the updated model on the domestic market is 3,377,000 yen (18,595 euros), and the equipment includes 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, a virtual instrument panel, an audio system with six speakers, and a leather steering wheel. The next trim level costs ¥3,564,000 (€19,625) and brings 18-inch wheels, leather and imitation suede seats, eight-speaker audio…
The most expensive Subaru BRZ STI Sport equipment package with a manual gearbox costs 3,839,000 yen (21,140 euros), while the version with an automatic gearbox costs 3,872,000 yen (21,320 euros). This coupe comes with blacked-out 18-inch wheels, Brembo brakes with gold calipers, black body accents, sport dampers, STI push-button ignition, and red interior accents. By the way, last autumn BRZ got a special racing edition – STI Sport Type RA.
