Audi Doesn’t Rule Out A New Supercar In the Future

The head of Audi leaves the door open for a new supercar. In an interview with Car & Driver, Gernot Delner said that such a model is “possible one day.”
Audi has ruled out reviving the R8 name, just as the Concept C will not carry the TT name when the production model arrives. Dellner didn’t go into detail, but it’s reasonable to expect any supercar to borrow the platform that underpins the Lamborghini Temeraria.
Previous generations of the R8 were paired with the Gallardo and Huracan for cost sharing, and given the current economic climate, it would be hard to justify developing a new platform from scratch.
Sharing platforms are now more relevant than ever. Volkswagen Group must save every euro cent to remain competitive as the Chinese threat looms over Europe and other regions. Business magazine Manager Magazine recently claimed that the car conglomerate is planning “massive” cost cuts, which could potentially reach 20 percent to save €60 billion by the end of 2028.
