BMW Speedtop Has Already Been Sold Out Before Launch
In May, BMW captivated the car world with the unveiling of the stunning Speedtop model, and every unit planned for production has already been fully reserved.
In an era when, according to many, almost every new BMW looks worse than the one it replaces, the Speedtop showed that the designers of the German giant still know how to design a real masterpiece. Given its looks, it’s no wonder that the Speedtop attracted a lot of interest from the first moment it “saw the light of day.”
During a recent financial report, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed that all 70 planned examples of the Speedtop had already sold out “immediately” after its launch on the shores of Lake Como in May.
BMW has not publicly announced the price of the Speedtop, but Zipse said that every example sold “at an unprecedented price range” for the company. BMW Blog states that the starting price was around 500,000 euros, about the same as for the Skytop, which is limited to 50 examples.
The Speedtop uses the BMW 8 Series platform and is powered by the same 4.4-liter V8 twin-turbo engine found in the M8 Competition model, which develops 625 hp and 750 Nm of torque.
From the outside, the model looks like a four-seater, but it’s a two-seater that BMW says is designed for “weekends.” In the back, there is a luggage area lined with plush leather, which contains ambient lighting and a set of bags from the Italian company Schedoni.
Given the success of the Speedtop, it wouldn’t be a surprise if BMW is working on some more expensive limited edition models. Last month, the BMW M division confirmed that it had received the “green light” to develop its own “small series” model along the lines of the Skytop and Speedtop.
