The 5-kilometer-long Yongwu highway in China has reopened to reservations on Thursday after the lifting of flood restrictions that was put in place since June 25th 2024.
Every year, during the rainy season, part of the Yongwu highway (at the Dahuchi section) becomes submerged in rising water of the Poyang lake, which is the largest freshwater lake in China.
Now, the waters of Poyang lake are now just above the road’s surface, providing a unique experience for drivers to drive across famous magical road dubbed “the most beautiful road under water”.
Footage taken from the past at the Dahuchi section of Yongwu highway shows water splashes as motorists and enthusiasts cruise along the submerged highway.
The 5-kilometer-long Yongwu highway is the only road connecting Wucheng township to other towns and counties – though some people prefer to take a boat to commute.
