“I Arrested 4 Mechanics Cause Of This Problem” : Nigeria car dealer shares a video of catalytic converter theft.
Found inside the car exhaust system of vehicles, catalytic converter is popularly known in Nigeria as Indomie.
It contains precious metals which help turns the hazardous exhaust gasses emitted by an engine into less toxic pollutants.
These precious metals now worth 20 times more than gold make catalytic converters a lucrative target for criminals.
Popular Abuja-based auto dealership, Manga Automobiles, has warned car owners to always check their vehicle’s catalytic converter popularly known here as as “Indomie” after visiting a mechanic.
Sharing a video showing an ongoing theft of an “Indomie” located inside the car exhaust system, Manga Automobiles revealed that four (4) mechanics were arrested on their orders for this crime.
“Person way fit do this to you can Kpai you ??? Very very annoying? I arrest 4 mechanics cause of this same problem? please always make sure your catalyst is intact b4 & after taking it to mechanics ?.”
Found inside the car exhaust system, catalytic converter, popularly known in Nigeria as Indomie, contains precious metals such as palladium and rhodium which help turns the hazardous exhaust gasses emitted by an engine into less toxic pollutants.
These precious metals now worth 20 times more than gold make catalytic converters a lucrative target for criminals as well as Nigerian mechanics and panel beaters, who steal them from unwary customers.
Like in Nigeria, thefts of catalytic converters are also a big deal in the United States of America, where State Farm auto received around 14,500 catalytic converter theft claims last year and over 23,000 in 2022.
