Lagos Blue Line Rail to commence full passenger operations on Monday, 4th September 2023.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would be the first passenger when operations commence.
Operations would commence 6.30am till 10am and 4pm to 10pm during afternoon and evening hours.
First phase of Blue Line, which stretches 13-km from Marina to Mile 2, is expected to transport 250,000 passengers daily.
Number expected to rise to 500,000 passengers daily when the entire 27km track from Marina to Okokomaiko is completed.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has announced that full passenger operations on the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line Rail would commence on Monday, 4th September 2023.
A statement by LAMATA revealed that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, would be the first passenger when operations commence.
Part of the statement reads :
“Today, the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo announced that passenger operations on the Blue Line rail would commence on Monday, 4th September 2023.
Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu would be the first passenger when operations commence.
“At a press conference, Mrs. Akinajo disclosed that operations would commence 6.30am till 10am during morning peak hours and 4pm to 10pm during afternoon and evening hours.
The first phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line, which stretches 13-kilometres from Marina to Mile 2, is expected to transport 250,000 passengers daily. This numbers is expected to rise to 500,000 passengers daily when the entire 27km track from Marina to Okokomaiko is completed.
According to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, train rides from Marina to Mile 2 will take “less than 15 minutes”, a journey that usually takes an hour or more.
Like in BRT buses, riders will be able to use the cowry card to access the train. The Lagos State Cowry transport payment card with the Touch and Pay system have already been tested and certified for use.
