LAMATA : 37-km Lagos Red Line To Be Unveiled In March, To Carry 500,000 Passengers Per Day
LAMATA : 37-km Red Line to be unveiled in March 2024, expected to carry 500,000 passengers per day.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission the Red Line within the first quarter of 2024.
Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has assured that the highly anticipated Lagos Rail Mass (LRMT) Red Line will be unveiled in March 2024 as all of its infrastructure are nearing completion.
Giving an update in a video posted to LAMATA Facebook page, the agency’s boss, Mrs Abimbola Akinajo, said that the tracks for the rail system were 95 per cent completed while the eight train stations were “literally completed.”
“We are implementing eight stations and that is all the way from Agbado. We have a station at Agbado, we have a station in Iju, we have a station in Agege, we have a station in Ikeja, we have a station in Mushin, we have a station in Oshodi, Oyingbo and Yaba. Now, all those stations as a point of update are literally completed. We have most of them, except Yaba, 99.9 per cent completed.
“Yaba, at the moment, is about 89 per cent completed. Now, from where we’re sitting, that means that we are confident and comfortable that we will meet the deadline that Mr Governor has given us. In terms of the track work, we’re done. If you remember, this is the one line that we’re sharing with the NRC tracks,” she said.
The LAMATA MD added that the two sets of trains procured by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the Red Line will be deployed for testing immediately after the unveiling of the Red Line rail system.
“Now for us, if you will also remember, Mr Governor had procured two sets of trains. Those will be ready for the testing and operations that will start immediately after the unveiling of the rail system.
“So, we expect that to start come the beginning of March, the middle of March and that will allow us to begin to test and also to work the interfaces between NRC.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to commission the Red Line within the first quarter of 2024. When Red Line Rail begins operations, it is expected to carry 500,000 passengers per day.
