LASG : ‘Uniformed’ Military, Police Officers Can Use Okada, Must Obey Traffic Rules While Using It - autojosh

LASG says military men and police officers can use okada when ‘fully dressed’… that is they must be in uniform for identity.

Jubril Gawat, a Senior Special Assistant on News Media to Sanwo-Olu adds that they must obey traffic rules while using it.

It follows the news of a soldier in mufti that was apprehended by Gov Sanwo-Olu for plying one-way along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Mr Jubril Gawat, a Senior Special Assistant on News Media to the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has clarified that the military men and police officers are exempted from Lagos Okada ban, but noted that they must be ‘fully dressed’ and must obey traffic rules while using it.

“We made the announcement and the information we put out was that Police, Soldiers and other Security formations can use Okada but ‘fully dressed’ while using it, Also it doesn’t give them the excuse to use one-way or BRT Lane. This information was agreed fully by all stakeholders involved.

Jubril Gawat said this while reacting to an X user (formerly Twitter) with the handle Mr Creativity, who questioned the way Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu treated a soldier that was apprehended for plying one-way along Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Mr Creativity wrote :

“UPDATE: The viral video of Gov. Sanwolu talking to a soldier rudely wasn’t professional as a leader, and that wasn’t a good way to handle issue even if he was a civilian too. The 9 Brigade Commander intervened on the matter yesterday and the soldier was released.

“It was also discovered that the soldier was a passenger who was standing where the okada drivers were staying and he did not own a motorcycle.

“Respect for soldiers is very important as a nation, the video has gone viral and it gave a bad light, I hope the governor will make a public apology to the personnel.
