LASPA Begins 2026 Parking Permit Enforcement In Lagos, Defaulters Face Fines, Suspension

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has commenced enforcement of the 2026 parking permit regulations across its operational zones, warning motorists and businesses operating without valid permits to regularise their activities or face sanctions.

The enforcement marks the end of the extended grace period given by the Authority to allow affected customers to obtain their 2026 parking permits and comply with the applicable requirements.

LASPA General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday August 31, noting that customers had been given several opportunities to meet their obligations. She said the Authority had issued reminders and communicated directly with customers who were yet to regularise their parking activities.

According to Adelabu, LASPA had earlier distributed 2026 Demand Notices to registered customers. The notices contained details of the applicable fees, requirements and procedures for obtaining the required parking permits.

She expressed concern that many customers were still operating without the necessary permits despite the extended grace period. She urged such customers to act immediately to avoid penalties associated with continued non-compliance.

LASPA said defaulting customers listed on the 2026 Demand Notices could face severe sanctions, including substantial fines and immediate suspension of operations. The penalties are being enforced under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

Adelabu stressed that the enforcement is not primarily intended to punish customers but to restore order and improve accountability within Lagos’ parking system. She said accurate records and valid permits would help LASPA plan, monitor and manage parking infrastructure more effectively.

The Authority urged residents, businesses and visitors to cooperate with its enforcement personnel and report unauthorised parking activities. LASPA also said its personnel are available to assist customers with online registration and payment as the State moves to strengthen its parking management system.
