Man gets 2-year jail term for damaging and stealing BRT Infrastructure belonging to LAMATA worth N3 million.
Convict and gang accused of stealing security light worth N1.6m as well ceiling and wire cables worth N1.4m.
Accused got two years for stealing and one year imprisonment for unlawful and willful damage.
The two sentences will run concurrently, and Moshood will spend two years behind bars.
An Ikeja Magistrate court has sentenced one Usman Moshood to two years imprisonment for damaging and stealing of BRT station’s facilities valued at N300 Million along the 13.65 kilometers shodi-Abule Egba BRT corridor.
The convict and his gang, who are still at large, were said to have unlawfully and willfully damaged the BRT infrastructure between January and June 2023 at Abule-Egba, Lagos.
Part of Press Release by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) reads :
“In a three-count charge, Moshood and his gang were said to have conspired among themselves to commit felony and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 411 of the criminal law of Lagos state 2015.
“Moshood and his gang were also accused stealing 200 units of security light valued at N1.6 million and suspended ceiling and wire cables valued at N1.4 million, property of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, thereby committed an offence punishable under section 287(5) (c) of criminal law of Lagos State 2015.
“In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs. Ayodeji Funlola Akinyemi sentenced Moshood to two years imprisonment for stealing and one year imprisonment for unlawful and willful damage.
The two sentences will run concurrently, and Moshood will spend two years behind bars.”
