Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric Has A New Entry-Level Model
Mercedes introduced the GLC 400 4MATIC with EQ technology last fall and is now expanding its offering with two more affordable variants in Europe. The cheapest model costs €64,736 in Germany, which is €6,545 less than the most expensive version on offer.
That’s a significant saving, but it comes with several trade-offs. The biggest is that the entry-level GLC 250 electric has a smaller 85 kWh battery and a single rear-mounted electric motor that produces 354 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This allows the crossover to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 210 km/h.
In addition to being slower, the GLC 250 also has a more modest range of 650 km, which is 65 km less than in the case of the GLC 400 4MATIC model, and buyers also get a slightly lower DC charging speed of 320 kW. However, it is still possible to charge the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 22 minutes.
The GLC 300 4MATIC Electric is similar but has two electric motors and all-wheel drive, developing 421 hp and 800 Nm of torque. This reduces the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h to 4.7 seconds, while the top speed remains the same. The range according to the WLTP cycle is 616 km.
The starting price is €68,306, which is €2,975 less than the GLC 400. This model has a larger 94 kWh battery and a more powerful drive with two electric motors, which provide 489 hp. This combination allows acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and a range of up to 715 km.
