Michelin Plans To Lay Off Up To 1500 Staffs
The French tyre manufacturer Michelin plans to cut up to 1,500 jobs in France over the next three years. By doing so, the company aims to reduce costs and simplify the organization.
In a message on its website, Michelin points to “severe economic and regulatory constraints” in France. The tyre manufacturer says it is suffering there from high production costs, particularly for personnel and energy, and “a tax burden that ranks among the highest in industrialized countries”.
One in three jobs that disappear will be an industrial job, and the rest will be support functions. Michelin has nearly 17,000 employees in France. According to the company, the job cuts are “based exclusively on voluntariness and without forced redundancies”, and it offers personal guidance towards other work.
Michelin already cut over 1,200 jobs in 2024 by closing two factories in western France.
