Many motorists in Abuja have had their vehicles clamped and fined for wrong parking since the reintroduction of the “park-and-pay” policy by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Designed to decongest the city, the “park-and-pay” initiative requires drivers to pay for parking vehicles in designated areas and parking lots, while those who indulge in wrong parking are fined.

An Instagram handle, named Abuja, shared a video showing ‘Wheel Clamp’ — a metal immobilizing clamp — on the wheels of several vehicles for parking offences. The video was captioned with :

“Don’t be parking anyhow o, FCTA Park & Pay will clamp your tyre as parking enforcement is now in full implementation.”

Olusade Adesola, FCTA permanent secretary, had in August signed an agreement with NAJEC Limited and Messrs. Automaten Technik Bauman Nigeria Limited, who would undertake the park-and-pay policy in two zones in the FCT.

The newly approved areas for the implementation of the park-and-pay policy in the Federal Capital Territory are Zone A, covering Wuse II and Utako, and Zone B, encompassing Maitama and Garki 1.

While NAJEC Limited will cover Zone A and is expected to generate a revenue of N11.875 billion, Automaten Technik Bauman Nig. Ltd (ATB) will take Zone B, and is expected to generate a revenue of N15.05 billion.
