Reckless Driver Who Crushed Two LAWMA Street Sweepers Was A Mechanic Driving His Client's Car - autojosh

Reckless driver who absconded after killing two LAWMA street sweepers was a mechanic driving his client’s car.

He was being chased by criminals on the day of the incident, and not by officials of the Lagos State Task Force or LASTMA.

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday arraigned the driver of a Honda Accord that rammed into two Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) sweepers while reportedly being chased by Lagos State Task Force officials.

The 45-year-old driver, Jerry Ironkwe, was arraigned before Magistrate L.Y. Balogun sitting before a Yaba Magistrate Court on three counts bordering on reckless driving that led to the death of the two persons.

At the court, it was gathered that the driver was not the owner of the Honda Accord, but a mechanic paid to fix it, and that he was being chased by criminals on the day of the incident, and not by officials of Lagos State Task Force or LASTMA as the news earlier claimed.

The charges read :

After pleading not guilty to the charges preferred against him, Balogun admitted him to bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till December 13, 2023, for DPP advice.
