Rolls-Royce Is In Danger From A Luxury Chinese Model
Rolls-Royce has long been synonymous with automotive luxury across Europe, America, and China. However, its dominance in the Chinese market is currently being challenged by Hongqi, the state-owned luxury brand under FAW. While Hongqi was previously recognized primarily for supplying vehicles to the Chinese government, the brand is now successfully transitioning into the ultra-luxury limousine sector.
The latest model of the Golden Sunflower Guoli brand costs around 920,000 euros, and the price can rise up to 1.5 million euros if the car is seriously personalized. For example, one of the craftsmen spends more than 1,200 hours creating intricate embroidery for a special edition model. A hundred different colored silk threads, each thinner than a human hair, are used to create the illusion of clouds above the passengers’ heads. The strategy of capitalizing on Chinese pride, heritage and craftsmanship seems to be working. According to FAW, Hongqi’s ultra-luxury Golden Sunflower line, launched in 2024, has found 1,400 customers in 2025. Although Rolls-Royce does not release data for China, industry analysts MarkLines estimate that the brand will sell 700 vehicles in China in 2025. Therefore, the Chinese are slowly winning in the ultra-luxury market as well.
By the way, the Golden Sunflower Guoli is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 turbo gasoline engine with 388 hp, is 598 cm long and weighs 3150 kg. The maximum speed is 220 km/h, and acceleration to 100 km/h takes 7.9 seconds. Now Hongqi is preparing to enter Malaysia and expand in Russia, writes Carscoops. It is increasingly clear that Chinese buyers are seriously patriotically motivated when purchasing a vehicle.
