The European Union will propose a series of solutions to try to stem the decline in demand for electric vehicles by boosting sales in the continent’s dominant company/fleet car market.

The European Commission will suggest that member states modify their tax regimes to encourage companies to purchase electric vehicles for their employees instead of traditional vehicles with internal combustion engines, according to Bloomberg News.

The recommendations will be paired with a definitive EU plan to guarantee the survival of European car manufacturers through the green transition. Countries must eliminate tax breaks for diesel and petrol cars and actively promote electric vehicles. It is crucial to address the significant concern that electric vehicle users are facing: the charging network remains underdeveloped across many European countries. Concrete action is needed to resolve this issue and support the shift to sustainable transportation.

Company cars and fleets account for around 60 percent of new car sales in Europe.
