Ferrari Luce “Chassis 0” fetched record-breaking price of $40m at RM Sotheby’s 29th annual flagship auction.
This monumental sale makes Chassis 0 officially becomes the most expensive new car and EV ever sold.
RM Sotheby’s initially expected it to fetch over $1.1, an estimate that was already nearly twice the base price of $640K.

The first production chassis of the Ferrari Luce program, “Chassis 0,” fetched a record-breaking price of $40 million at RM Sotheby’s 29th annual flagship Monterey auction on August 15. The historic sale took place despite earlier controversy surrounding the launch of Ferrari’s highly anticipated electric vehicle.
With this monumental sale, the Chassis 0 officially becomes the most expensive new car ever sold. RM Sotheby’s initially expected the vehicle to fetch over $1.1 million,an estimate that was already nearly twice the price of the base car, which starts around $640,000 before buyers add bespoke options.

As confirmed prior to the event, Ferrari and RM Sotheby’s announced that 100% of the proceeds from this charity auction will benefit future educational initiatives. The funds will go directly toward “The Ferrari Foundation,” a recognized 501(c)(3) public charity.
Created through Ferrari’s prestigious Tailor Made personalization program, Chassis 0 boasts a striking, color-changing ‘Madreperla Semi-Gloss’ exterior finish. The paint beautifully transitions from green to violet depending on the light intensity and viewing angle.

Inside, the cabin is wrapped in Le Mans metallic leather in Perla—a unique, reflective leather created using select Swiss hides that remains completely exclusive to the Tailor Made program. Additionally, the secondary interior elements are finished in a refined Grigio Corvara instead of traditional black.
While the Luce has admittedly divided traditional Ferrari purists amid debates surrounding its radical EV design, this one-of-a-kind, US-spec hypercar has already secured an permanent place in automotive history.
