4 Reasons Why Your Headlight Is Dim

Headlights are a critical component of any vehicle. When visibility is poor, it helps you see where you’re going. It also serves as a warning to other drivers of your presence. If your headlights appear dim, there could be an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
The following are four reasons why your headlight is dim.
Faulty Bulb
The most common cause of a dim headlight is a faulty bulb. Headlights do not burn out; they dim over time, and both headlights rarely dim at the same rate.
Dirty Lens
Headlight lenses frequently develop leaks, causing condensation to form on the inside of the plastic. This water collects dust, which dims the light over time.
Bad Alternator
Another common cause of dim headlights is a failing alternator. If you notice that the lights brighten and dim as the engine revs up and down, you should check the alternator right away.
Bad Ground
A bad ground can result in less voltage being delivered to your headlight, which is especially noticeable with halogen lights. Corroded bulb terminals or a loose or broken wire can cause this. Consider cleaning the terminals with a wire brush or replacing the bulb.
