High-riding Range Rover models remains one of the most targeted vehicles in the UK after 5,200 was in 2022.
Now, Range Rover owners in London are struggling to get insurance as it is one of most nicked in Britain.
Models includes Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, and Range Rover Sport – all of which are priced £34k – £170k.
Another research found the Range Rover Sport was the most stolen and recovered vehicle for the third consecutive year.
Range Rover owners in London are reportedly struggling to get insurance because the high-riding British-made premium SUV is one of most stolen vehicle in Britain.
The news comes after the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) revealed that 5,200 Land Rover Range Rover SUVs were stolen last year, mostly in the capital.
Land Rover Range Rover models includes the flagship Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque, Range Rover Velar and the Range Rover Sport – all of which are priced from £34,000 to more than £170,000 brand new.
While DVLA figures shows that the Range Rover is the second most nicked in Britain, a separate research from Tracker Network UK found the Range Rover Sport was the most commonly stolen and recovered vehicle for the third consecutive year.
The high rate of theft and the mounting claims have forced insurers to either stop covering London-registered models or have increased premiums to around £40,000 a year.
Neil Thomas, director of investigation services at tracking company AX, said :
“The problem for Range Rovers is not their security — it’s their huge popularity here and abroad.
“Thieves know they can dispose of one very easily and for a good price so will invest in the technology they need to steal them.”
With ‘keyless’ vehicles accounting for almost of all reported ‘theft of vehicle’ claims, Jaguar Land Rover said it was talking to insurers about how it is improving security.
It added :
“We recommend clients use all available measures to protect their vehicle, including activating our Remote app and its suite of security features including Guardian Mode, which monitors the vehicle and provides an alert if the car has been unlocked.”
A spokesperson for the Alliance of British Insurers said :
“Insurers take theft of vehicles very seriously and work closely with police forces to help tackle it.”
“Cover is available through a number of motor insurers, but anyone struggling to find a suitable policy should shop around or contact a broker who may be able to help.”
