Rolls-Royce’s Next Bespoke Creation Will Be Called Droptail, After $13m Sweptail And $28m Boat Tail
BMW-owned Rolls-Royce Motors submit the trademark ‘Droptail’ to the EU Intellectual Property Office.
The name hints that a new highly exclusive luxury creation by its coachbuilding department is coming.
It will follow the one-off Sweptail unveiled in 2017 and a trio of Rolls-Royce Boat Tail unveiled last year.
No details yet about the Droptail, but the Boat Tail and Sweptail used versions of Rolls-Royce Phantom’s platform.
The Sweptail and each of the Boat Tails are rumored to have cost about $12.8 million and $28 million respectively.
British luxury marque Rolls-Royce in 2017 unveiled a one-off Sweptail at the yearly Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, a bespoke creation that reportedly cost an unnamed wealthy individual about $12.8 million.
The one-off Sweptail, previously the most expensive new car ever, was followed by a trio of Rolls-Royce Boat Tails. First unveiled last year, each of the Boat Tails was rumored to have cost the owners $28 million, making the limited model the most expensive new car ever.
Now, a report by Carbuzz says Rolls-Royce has filed a patent with the European Union Intellectual Property Office for the word “Droptail“, suggesting a next-gen of highly exclusive luxury creation by Rolls-Royce’s in-house coachbuilding department is coming.
While Rolls-Royce is yet to deliver the third and final Boat Tail, we should expect the Droptail to arrive in two to three years time. The Boat Tail arrived last year, three years after Rolls-Royce filed the patent for the limited-edition model in 2018.
There are no details yet about the Droptail, but the Boat Tail and Sweptail used versions of the Rolls-Royce Phantom’s platform. The coachbuilt may arrive after the debut of Rolls-Royce Spectre EV, an ultra-luxury electric vehicle, which is planned to hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2023.
