Lagos Residents To Get Free Train Rides As Test Runs For Blue Line Rail Begins
Passengers to get free train rides for 5 weeks as test runs for recently commissioned Lagos Blue Line Rail begins.
The aim of the test ride is to enlighten members of the public on how to use the system ahead of full operation.
Like in BRT buses, riders will be able to use the Lagos State Cowry transport payment card to access the train.
The Lagos State Government on Monday 13th February 2023 commenced test run of the recently commissioned 13-kilometre-long Blue Line rail system from Marina – Mile 2.
On board the electric-powered train is the Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (LAMATA) Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation Engr. Abdulafiz Toriola, among others.
Monday’s inaugural test run will be followed by free passenger rides to and fro the 13km-long Blue Line Rail system from Marina to Mile 2 over the course of 5 weeks.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority (LAMATA) explains that the aim of the test ride is to enlighten members of the public on how to use the system ahead of full operation.
According to the Managing Director of LAMATA, the test run would be carried out twice weekly over the next two months, and the free train rides will be open for Lagosians from all walks of life.

Like in BRT buses, riders will be able to use the Lagos State Cowry transport payment card with the Touch and Pay system to access the train.
In a tweet on its Twitter handle on Monday, Cowry said :
