Honda Discontinues Its e Electric Hatchback After A 4 Year Run
When it appeared on the market at the end of 2019, the Honda e provided a welcome breath of fresh air. Choupinette, as you wish, in fact, with its good-natured appearance, its expressive gaze, and the treatment of its original and hyper-technological interior equipped with six screens (!), and its rear cameras. Alas, four years later, Honda confirmed that it was putting a definitive stop to its electric city car, which will be scrapped at the end of 2023.
The reasons for this premature termination of the little Japanese 5-door are obvious. First of all, its price, above all, is prohibitive and clearly above the competition: the Honda e is currently listed in the brand’s catalog in Europe from €42,100 to €44,360. If again, for this price, the autonomy of the Japanese exceeded that of its adversaries,. Far from it, the city car, with its only 35.5 kWh useful battery, sticks out its tongue to cover 171 km in town without having to recharge (according to measurements), 130 km on the road, and barely more than 100 km on the highway. This is far too little to attract customers lacking purchasing power and whose psychological blockage due to autonomy in electric vehicles continues. If we add its singularly low loading volume (110 dm3 according to our measurements), the matter is inevitably over.
