President Tinubu Commissions Lagos Red Line Infrastructure, To Carry 500,000 Passengers Per Day
President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu commissions first phase of 37-kilometre LRMT Red Line infrastructure.
The newly commissioned Red Line is projected to run 37 trips and carry more than 500,000 passengers per day.
In addition, it will reduce travel time from Agbado to Oyingbo to 40 minutes, a journey that takes over two hours by road.
At the event, LAMATA also signed a deal with CCECC for the commencement of the 2nd phase of the Red Line.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday February 29th commissioned the Lagos Rail Mass Transit Red Line phase one at the iconic Ikeja train station, a transit system the President conceived as the Governor of Lagos State 25 years ago.
The newly commissioned Red Line is projected to run 37 trips and carry more than 500,000 passengers per day, in addition to reducing travel time from Agbado to Oyingbo to just about 40 minutes, a journey that takes more than two hours through the road.

The launch of the Red line was witnessed by the crème de la crème of the nation’s political class, including Governor of Kwara, Ogun, Ekiti, Imo and Kogi states, the business class and the diplomatic community.
In his speech, the President Tinubu praised the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for its dedication to delivering projects that directly impact the people, starting from the BRT and now mass transit with the trains.

On his part, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu spoke on the efforts of the State Government to boost train passenger trips with the signing of new sets of six rolling stock, three each for the Blue and Red Lines.
At the event, LAMATA also signed a deal with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the commencement of the 2nd phase of the Red Line, which will connect with the Blue Line at National Theater Station.
