“To put it in perspective, when a Picasso masterpiece comes to market, art collectors know that if they don’t act, it may never see the light of day again.”
Powering it is the same 4.7-liter V8 engine on the track variants, which puts out the power of 306 horses and allows the GT40 Road Car to hit 60 mph from a standing start in 5.3 seconds.
At a final price of $6.93 million (nearly $7 million), including the buyer’s premium, this sparkling gem of American muscle is now the fourth most expensive GT40 sold at auction.
But the record for the most expensive example of the GT40 is currently held by the Gulf-liveried 1968 race car version used in the 1971 film Le Mans, which sold for $11 million in 2012.
