SAGLEV Begins Production Of Battery-powered Cars At Its Advanced EV Plant In Lagos
Electric Vehicle maker, SAGLEV commences production of battery-powered cars at its advanced EV plant in Lagos.
Earlier revealed that its fully charged EV can go up to 300km – equivalent to driving from Oshodi to Ajah ten times.
It also highlighted the merits of electric vehicles, including its affordability, less maintenance and costs less to charge.
Saglev Electric Cars, a pioneer in the Nigerian Electric Vehicle (EV) market, has commenced the production of battery-powered vehicles at its state-of-the-art assembly plant in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The company had earlier revealed that its Electric Vehicle (EV) offerings will solve many challenges in Nigeria, including reducing the cost of motoring and commuting as well as reducing carbon emissions.
Last October, Saglev’s CEO, Sam Faleye, while highlighting the merits of electric vehicles at a press conference held in Lagos, said that “electric vehicles are actually affordable, needs less maintenance, costs less to charge, and does not require fueling.”
Considering the rising price of petrol, Dr. Faleye revealed that one of three SAGLEV electric vehicles on display during the launch is even cheaper than a brand new Toyota Camry.
“In the area of affordability, it will shock you to note that one of our brand-new EVs on display goes for around N18-N20m. Comparatively, a new Toyota Camry costs about N40m. The cost-effectiveness of EVs is striking, especially considering the rising petrol prices.”
On drive range, he noted that a fully charged EV can cover up to 300 kilometers on a single charge, which he said was equivalent to driving from Oshodi to Ajah ten times.
“So, you really do not need to charge your car every day; all you require is to charge the car about once or twice per week. It also takes about 4 hours with a level two charger to fully charge a car, and this can be done while you sleep.”
As part of its mission to increase the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nigeria, SAGLEV recently opened a new EV charging points at the rooftop of the multi-level car park of Mega Plaza Shopping Mall, Victoria Island, Lagos.
