Fire Related Road Crashes : FRSC Begins Clampdown On Vehicles Carrying Petrol
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) begins nationwide clampdown on vehicles carrying inflammable substances, especially petrol.
The special intervention patrol by FRSC officials is aimed at mitigating fire related road traffic crashes.
The directives include massive deployment of patrol operatives on the nation’s highways to conduct search.
The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has ordered the immediate clampdown on passenger vehicles carrying inflammable substances like petroleum products across the country.
The special intervention patrol is aimed at mitigating fire related road traffic crashes, according to a statement issued by the Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO), Olusegun Ogungbemide.
“The directives include massive deployment of patrol operatives on the nation’s highways to conduct search and identify vehicles carrying these products.
When sighted, FRSC officials are ordered to empty the content into the vehicle as well as conduct awareness campaign on drivers and passengers about the dangers of carrying petroleum products in vehicles.
“However, he also directed that unlike the conventional operations, in the course of this intervention patrol, drivers could be prosecuted for compromising the safety of their passengers.
“He further narrated that no excuse is acceptable for such dastardly act. It is to be a civil engagement that targets at ensuring that those products when sighted, are emptied into the fuel tank of the vehicles.
To further mitigate fire related road traffic crashes, the Corps Marshal also directed the Public Education Officers nationwide to compliment the intervention patrol with aggressive sensitisation of road users.
The Corps Marshal also called on passengers to always ensure that they take their safety in their very hands by reporting to FRSc patrol teams or through emergency lines whenever they suspect the vehicle they boarded have inflammable substances in them.
