Mercedes-AMG Set To Develop A New V8 Engine

Company boss Michael Schiebe confirmed that Mercedes-AMG is developing the next generation of V8 engines, which will be installed in several future models.
AMG’s V8 engines have a promising future for now, thanks to gaps in regulations. The EU’s ban on internal combustion engines won’t take effect until 2035, and the U.S. has not set a firm deadline. As a result, V8s have several years left ahead of them.
Schiebe did not specify how many years the current engine could be kept around, but it seems that AMG is not only “keeping the lights on” but is actively working on a new generation of V8 engines.
Speaking to Car and Driver magazine, he explained that the next-generation V8 engine could find its way into a number of future models, which has opened the door to speculation. Some of them are very optimistic, saying that the engine could also be an option for the redesigned C63.
“The development of the next generation of V8 engines is underway, and I see many positions within our existing portfolio, and perhaps even some new positions where we could have a V8,” the AMG boss added.
For several months now, there has been talk of a new generation of V8 engines being developed by Mercedes-AMG
The company is also developing the engine to be compatible with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, which could include a starter motor in the transmission, more power and better efficiency.
Schiebe pointed out that AMG will not go full hybrid with this engine, which suggests that the V8 will stay closer to its roots.
This strategy could extend the life of models like the AMG GT 4-Door, which many assumed would be phased out once AMG’s all-electric high-performance sedan hits the market. However, Schiebe argues that may not be the case, at least not yet.
“We’ll see how long we continue with the GT 4-Door model. There may be a successor, but I don’t want to speculate on that,” he said.
