Vehicles of German Politicians Emit More Pollutants Than Those Of The Masses
German politicians’ official cars emit significantly more harmful substances than the average car owned by citizens in the country, reports the German environmental organization Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) based on its own research.
According to the study, only 87 of the 238 most important politicians drive electric cars. “Despite the ongoing climate crisis, there are no signs, even after the change of government, that the cabinet is consistently switching to fuel-efficient company cars,” the organization states. The study does show that the share of fully electric cars in the national government has increased slightly, from 50 to 57 percent, compared to last year.
The figures have some caveats. For example, the ranking assumes that plug-in hybrids are used exclusively in combustion mode. Previous studies indicate that this is often the case. The specific driving behaviour of German politicians and their drivers was not examined in the most recent study.
