The European Union is seriously working on the introduction of electric mobility. The regulations are in favor of electric cars, and the geopolitical situation in the world, i.e., the high price of fuel, is supporting the growth of sales of electric vehicles. But how will the market react to those impulses?!

While it is true that the adoption of electric vehicles is witnessing a notable upward trajectory within specific European nations, a comprehensive analysis reveals that these localized gains are currently insufficient to catalyze a systemic or meaningful transformation across the broader European automotive landscape. Despite the ambitious regulatory framework established by the European Union and the significant economic pressures exerted by volatile global fuel prices, the transition toward full electrification is progressing at a pace that lags considerably behind the initial expectations set by policymakers. Consequently, the reliance on traditional internal combustion engine vehicles remains deeply entrenched, suggesting that the path toward a carbon-neutral transportation sector will be far more protracted and complex than current projections might otherwise indicate.

Scientists from the Technical University of Munich made a serious analysis of the European market, looking at the current parameters and projecting the future. According to Rector Thomas Hoffmann, the margins for error are small. In just four years, 78 percent of all cars in Europe will still run on gasoline or diesel fuel. That is still a huge number of petrol and diesel drivers. New electric cars are not replacing old fossil cars at the rate the EU expects.
