Skoda Says The Fabia Will Remain For A Long Time As A New EV Model Is On The Pipeline

With the arrival of all sorts of new (electric or otherwise) Skodas in recent years, you would almost forget that the Czechs still have the down-to-earth Fabia in the showroom. Skoda’s second-best-selling model in our country accounted for well over 1,500 units here last year. A facelift is likely in the works for the Fabia next year, and there is a strong chance that it won’t stop there. The Fabia still has quite a while to go, Skoda CEO Klaus Zellmer hinted to Autocar.

Not only the Fabia, but also the Scala and the Kamiq still have quite a few years ahead of them. According to Zellmer, those three might well remain until 2034, another eight years to go. That year is not a random choice; for the time being, the European sales ban on conventional new fuel cars comes into effect a year later. Zellmer emphasizes that electric successors must be ready by then and is already talking about an electric Fabia. After all, a relatively affordable ‘first tier’ must remain in the model range. Logically, the electric Fabia will be slightly cheaper than the recently unveiled Skoda Epiq, its taller sibling. Naturally, the Fabia will be directly related to the Volkswagen ID Polo, just as the Fabia already shares much with the regular Polo.
