Again, LASG, through LAMATA, increases BRT Bus Fare by 18 percent, starting on Monday 17th February 2025.
Cites the increase in the cost of operations, need to keep the buses running as the reason for the increase in transportation fares.
It comes 9 months after the LASG ended the 25% rebate, returned the fares to normal rate on Monday June 3rd 2024.

The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), has announced that there will be an Eighteen (18%) percent increase in BRT bus fares, starting from Monday, 17th February 2025.
In a statement on its social media platforms, LAMATA cited the increase in the cost of operations and the need to keep the buses running as the reason for the increase in transportation fares.
A statement posted to LAMATA’s social media platforms reads :
“Please be informed that there will be an 18 percent increase in the bus fare on all Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) scheme.”
“The fare rise is because of the increase in the cost of operations and the need to ensure that buses keep running and guarantee your movement around Lagos.”
“The new fare will take effect from
Monday, 17th February 2025. We seek your understanding and cooperation.”
The latest increase in bus fares comes nine (9) months after the Lagos State Government ended the 25 percent rebate and returned the fares on regulated public transport in Lagos State to normal rate on Monday June 3rd 2024.
