Amazon Cargo Plane Crashes In Miami, Narrowly Misses Car Lot Full Of Tesla Cybercabs

An Amazon Prime Air Boeing 767 cargo jet overshot the runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday, September 6, 2026, after a crash landing that reportedly killed five people and injured five others.
The aircraft reportedly travelled about 1,300 feet beyond the runway before striking vehicles and coming to rest close to the car lot where the fleet of brand-new, gold-coloured Tesla Cybercabs was parked.

The unusual near-miss quickly caught the attention of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who simply responded “Weird” on X to a post highlighting how close the cargo plane came to the company’s Cybercabs.

Tesla has not officially confirmed that the vehicles were being prepared for a Miami launch. However, their presence at the airport has fuelled speculation that the company could be preparing to expand its Cybercab robotaxi rollout to Florida.
The incident came just days after Tesla officially launched its Cybercab robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, on September 3, 2026. Designed without a steering wheel or pedals, the two-seat electric vehicle relies entirely on Tesla’s autonomous-driving technology.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the deadly Miami cargo-plane crash. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the incident, with authorities having recovered the aircraft’s flight data recorders.
Separately, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an audit examining Tesla’s certification process for the steering-wheel-free Cybercab and whether the vehicles comply with applicable federal safety requirements.
