Both Bentley and Rolls-Royce are slashing their future electric plans. Jobs are involved as well.

Bentley has a difficult message: it finds itself forced to cut jobs due to the uncertain future in the automotive industry. According to Bentley’s CEO, the industry is under enormous pressure ‘in every aspect,’ which is why around 275 positions are being lost at the brand. It will cost 150 employees their jobs, as some people are also being moved to other positions. Bentley cites weak demand for fully electric cars as one of the difficult situations at the moment. Only two electric models are now being prepared for 2030, instead of five. The first electric Bentley, however, is fast approaching and will be a cousin of the electric Porsche Macan.

Fellow countryman and closest competitor Rolls-Royce is also cutting back on its electric plans. Rolls-Royce had set an even sharper goal of being fully electric by 2030 but is now abandoning that objective. This is reported by The Times. According to Rolls-Royce, there is simply still too much demand for models with a powerful V12 to stop producing them. The current CEO says, according to The Guardian, that while the goal was a logical one to set at the time, circumstances have changed. Unlike Bentley, Rolls-Royce already sells an electric model: the Spectre (see photo).
