BYD Sells First Units Of Its 3019 HP Hypercar
We’re used to BYD conquering the market with affordable electric models, but the latest project shows a completely different ambition. The YangWang U9 Xtreme model enters the world of hypercars, with performance that directly rivals the most exclusive names in the industry.
At the recent auto show in Beijing, it was confirmed that the first buyers have already reserved their copies, although the price exceeds 20 million yuan, that is, approximately 2.5 million euros. It’s a price territory where brands like Bugatti or Koenigsegg normally compete, not a company that until yesterday was synonymous with affordable electric cars.
U9 Xtreme brings numbers that most seriously compete with the mentioned brands. Four electric motors develop a total of 3019 HP, which makes this car the most powerful production car in history.
Performance is equally extreme. The prototype reached a top speed of 496.22 km/h in testing last year, surpassing the unofficial world record of the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which reached 490.484 km/h in 2019, although the question remains whether production examples will be limited to lower speeds. Additionally, the car lapped the Nürburgring in 6:57.147, making it the fastest road-going electric model on the circuit.
Technically, the car has a 1200V platform, which allows for extremely fast power delivery and potentially very fast charging. But an equally important element is the exclusivity; the production will be limited to only 30 examples, which could raise the value of the model among collectors. Interestingly, one of the first buyers is the Australian billionaire Nick Politis, whose copy will be the only one in Australia.
