Customs Zone ‘A’ intercepts goods worth N1.75 billion, including 25 Tokunbo cars, 8 trailer loads of foreign rice.
The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the intercepted goods amounts to an impressive N1.75 billion.
Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ also generated N72.8 million in revenue.
The Unit also arrested 14 suspects in connection with smuggling, violating import/export guidelines and concealment.
In its drive to curb smuggling within its areas of jurisdiction, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos has intercepted goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N1.755 billion (N1,755,080,898).
The Unit also arrested fourteen (14) suspects in connection with various offenses, including violating import/export guidelines, concealment, undervaluation, wrong classification, smuggling, and contravening policy directives.
The Acting Comptroller Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this at a media briefing on Friday, 06 October 2023, at the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, Lagos.
The highlight of the briefing was the interception of approximately eight (8) trailer loads of foreign parboiled rice, 35,100 liters of premium motor spirit (PMS), 1,100 liters of Diesel, and twenty-five (25) units of second-hand vehicles (Tokunbo).
The cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the intercepted goods amounts to an impressive N1.75 billion. The Unit also generated N72.8 million in revenue through meticulous documentary checks and the issuance of demand notices on consignments that were found to have paid lesser amounts than the appropriate customs duty.
While rounding off his briefing, the Acting Comptroller Comptroller-General of Customs urged importers and licensed agents are urged to make sincere declarations, adhere to existing import and export guidelines, and avoid the risk of losing their investments.
