Driver and conductor flees after commercial bus killed a pedestrian, injured two others at Iyana Ejigbo, Lagos.
Preliminary reports by LASTMA suggest the bus was speeding when it suffered a sudden brake failure.
LASTMA said that this caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, causing it veer off the road to strike three bystanders.
To avert accidents, LASTMA implored motorists to observe stipulated speed limits and to prioritize regular vehicular maintenance.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has again urged motorists to adhere to speed regulations after a commercial bus claimed the life of a pedestrian and left two others severely injured at the Iyana Ejigbo area of Lagos on Saturday (today).
In a statement, LASTMA said that preliminary findings shows that the commercial bus, reportedly travelling at an excessive speed, experienced a catastrophic brake failure, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered off course and forcefully collided with unsuspecting bystanders.
Following the incident, LASTMA said that the driver and conductor fled the scene immediately, abandoning the victims and their the commercial bus, a LT bus with registration number, AAA 927 YJ.
“Operatives of LASTMA responded expeditiously, extracting the deceased, who was pinned beneath the bus, and rendering immediate assistance to the injured. All three victims were swiftly conveyed to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent medical intervention.”
“Throughout the rescue effort, officers of the Ejigbo Police Division provided critical security reinforcement to ensure a smooth operation. The accident vehicle has since been transferred to the Police by LASTMA personnel for comprehensive investigation.”
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, conveyed his profound condolences to the bereaved family and extended heartfelt wishes for the swift recovery of the injured parties.
He further implored motorists to conscientiously observe stipulated speed limits and to prioritize regular vehicular maintenance—particularly of braking systems—to avert avoidable disasters on our roads.
