F1: Hamilton’s 106th Victory In Barcelona, Ferrari’s First
Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton won the Formula One race for the Catalan Grand Prix in Barcelona, ending an almost two-year streak without a championship triumph.
Hamilton recorded his first victory since moving to Ferrari last year, registering a record seventh triumph in Barcelona, as well as the 106th overall of his career.
With four laps to go, Mercedes’ overall leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who was in second place at the time, had his car parked off the track due to technical problems. Antonelli’s teammate George Russell took second place, while reigning world champion Lando Norris of McLaren crossed the finish line in third.
Fourth place went to Red Bull driver Max Verstappen; fifth was finished by McLaren’s Oscar Piastre, and sixth place was taken by Verstappen’s teammate Isak Hajar, while Alpine drivers Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, as well as Racing Bull drivers Arvid Lindblad and Liam Lawson, also scored points.
The end of the race was declared by the famous Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, winner of 24 Grand Slam tournaments, with a wave of the chequered flag.
In the overall standings, Antonelli still leads with 156 points, Hamilton is second with 115 points, and Russell is third with 106 points, followed by Leclerc with 75, Norris with 73, Piastri with 68, Verstappen with 55…
In the constructors’ standings, Mercedes leads with 262 points, followed by Ferrari with 190, McLaren with 141, Red Bull with 89, Alpine with 60, Racing Bulls with 38…
The next race will be held on June 28th, St Vidovdan, for the Austrian Grand Prix at the Spielberg track.
