Fake jet engine parts from UK-based AOG Technics grounds 100s of aeroplanes around the world as scandal grows. 

AOG Technics accused of supplying falsely certified components used in the CFM56 turbofan—the world’s most widely used jet engine.

Since the news broke out last month, many airlines, including American Airlines and United Airlines, have grounded their aircrafts. 

Last month, engine manufacturer CFM International filed a lawsuit against UK-based aerospace parts supplier AOG Technics for supplying falsely certified components used in the CFM56 turbofan— the world’s most widely used jet engine.

AOG Technics is said to have fabricated documentation for parts that were fitted to engines powering Airbus A320-family and Boeing 737 aircraft, according to the lawsuit filed by CFM International.

According to a Simple Flying report, EASA investigation found that some of the fraudulent components include turbine blades, considered ‘life-limited parts’ susceptible to fatigue over time.

A CFM spokesperson commented,

“Safety is our first priority, and we are taking aggressive legal action against AOG Technics to accelerate the industry’s ability to identify parts sold by this third-party with falsified documentation.”

Since the news broke out last month, many airlines, including American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines have grounded their aircrafts — though, some are back in service after some of the suspected false parts were replaced with certified parts.

As reported by Simple Flying, CFM International, who unknowingly bought the bogus engine parts for use, said on Wednesday that the number of engines containing the parts has risen from 96 to 126.

While multiple airlines have already replaced the uncertified parts and returned their planes to service, close to 100 planes may still be affected worldwide, according to report.
